TV and Radio

The Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) is the country's only public service broadcaster. As Austria's largest media provider, it operates four national television channels, 9 radio channels and a wide range of online media.

Television – Household TV License Fee

The ORF household TV license fee has been in force since 01.01.2024, replacing the previous GIS fee (broadcasting fee). It amounts to € 15.30 per month per household and is exempt from VAT and federal taxes. Depending on the federal state, the amount is collected including the state levy. This is between € 0 and € 4.70 per month. Every household is obliged to pay this fee for their main place of residence.

If your household income is below a certain threshold and you receive once of the following social benefits, you are entitled to apply for a fee waiver: Childcare allowance, student/pupil allowance, apprenticeship allowance, care allowance, pension, unemployment benefit, minimum income, benefits from other public funds (social need).
