With the establishment of Clinical Trials Austria, a nationwide infrastructure initiative is being created to sustainably strengthen Austria as a research and clinical trials location. The initiative is being developed as a publicly funded project with resources from the Austrian Future Fund. The aim is to create long-term, viable structures for the further development of the clinical trials ecosystem.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft is one of Austria’s leading non-university research organisations and is spearheading the initiative. For this key position, we are seeking an inclusive and results-driven leader who can network diverse stakeholders and shape Clinical Trials Austria from conception to sustainable implementation.

YOUR FUTURE ROLE

• Overall responsibility for the conception, establishment, and sustainable integration of Clinical Trials Austria to strengthen Austria as a clinical research and trials location
• Development of a viable governance and organisational model
• Bringing together and coordinating key stakeholders from politics, regulatory authorities, science, healthcare, industry, and patient advocacy groups in close collaboration with the interministerial steering committee
• Deriving and implementing strategic measures to improve the framework conditions for clinical trials in Austria, as well as conducting analyses and (international) benchmarking initiatives
• Advancing national standards and designing innovative processes to create an attractive, future-ready clinical trials location for research-intensive studies
• International networking and exchange with European and international best-practice countries
• As part of the platform’s development, the establishment of a small CTA team is planned

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

• Completed university degree and further qualifications relevant to the clinical trials ecosystem (preferably PhD, MBA, or comparable postgraduate qualification)
• Several years of professional experience, ideally in a leadership role, within the clinical trials ecosystem or a related field of clinical research, such as healthcare, science and research, pharmaceutical, biotech, or medtech companies, public administration, or research and trials management
• In-depth knowledge of Austria’s clinical research landscape as well as national and international framework conditions for clinical trials
• Experience in establishing, steering, and managing complex multi-stakeholder projects or service-oriented infrastructure platforms
• Competent and persuasive demeanour, high ability to integrate, diplomatic skills, and confidence in negotiations
• Solution-oriented, analytical, and organised work approach combined with decisiveness and implementation strength
• Open, dynamic, and proactive personality with a hands-on mentality
• Excellent command of German and English

WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION SPECIAL

• Establishing a national key initiative for Austria’s clinical research and trials location, funded by the Austrian Future Fund
• High visibility and significant scope for shaping the initiative during the current four- to five-year development phase, with the prospect of sustainable integration
• Opportunity to actively shape the framework conditions for clinical trials in Austria
• Direct collaboration with ministries, universities, hospital operators, and other trial centres, research institutions, regulatory authorities, and industry partners, as well as full integration into the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft

The position is currently planned for a period of four to five years and is funded by the Austrian Future Fund. The gross annual salary for this position is EUR 120,000. A willingness to offer a higher salary based on your qualifications and professional experience is, of course, given.
