Senior Specialist: CBM & Data-Driven Maintenance (IoT & Machine Learning)
- Vienna
- Full Time
Your Area of Responsibility
You will shape the data-driven maintenance of our rail vehicles with a clear focus on Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM).
You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of Data Scientists (m/f/x) and rail vehicle technical experts. Together, you will develop data-based models and transfer them into robust applications for operational use.
In doing so, you will operate at the interface between rail vehicle technology, IoT systems, and Data Science, ensuring that data science models are technically sound, practically usable, and sustainably operable.
The necessary data infrastructure and platforms are provided by central IT and Data Engineering units, with whom you will work closely.
Your Job
- You will take on a central technical role in a data-driven CBM team and collaborate closely with Data Scientists (m/f/x) to develop machine learning models for condition monitoring and condition forecasting.
- You will ensure that data science models function realistically within the vehicle context and actively contribute domain knowledge to modeling, feature engineering, and evaluation.
- You will be responsible for transferring models into productive applications: from data integration to IoT system integration, deployment, monitoring, and continuous further development (MLOps – in coordination with IT/Data Engineering).
- You will analyze operational, diagnostic, and sensor data and work purposefully to replace rule-based maintenance approaches with model-based methods.
- You will translate requirements from rail vehicle technology into precise data science problem statements and ensure that model decisions are traceable and robust in operation.
- You will work closely with central IT and Data Engineering teams to ensure scalable and stable data pipelines and platform solutions.
- You will shape technical standards for data-driven maintenance – particularly regarding model integration, data quality, and system behavior in the field.
Your Profile
- We look forward to getting to know you if you have a completed technical-academic degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Mathematics at a university of technology (TU) or university of applied sciences (FH), or an equivalent technical HTL diploma or master school qualification with several years of industry-specific professional experience.
- Additionally, you bring a strong understanding of rail vehicles, diagnostic systems, as well as IoT and communication architectures.
- A solid interest or experience in: time series analysis and signal processing, machine learning, and statistical methods, as well as evaluating model quality in an industrial context.
- You have experience with Python (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn), data processing systems (e.g., Spark/MLFlow is an advantage), integration of technical systems, and data streams.
- You enjoy working interdisciplinarily in a team with Data Scientists (m/f/x) and Data Engineers (m/f/x) and take pleasure in understanding, challenging, and translating work into technical reality.
- Experience in collaborating with IT and platform teams is an advantage.
- A structured, independent, and solution-oriented way of working characterizes you, as do strong analytical skills and high problem-solving competence. Even in dynamic project situations, you maintain an overview and make well-founded decisions.
- Your communication skills enable you to collaborate effectively with both technical expert teams and operational stakeholders.
