  • Full Time

We are responsible for the availability, security, and economic operation of telecommunications networks as well as command, control, and telematics systems within the Railway Systems business unit.

As a System Engineer for IT-based railway signalling technology, you will make a fundamental contribution to shaping central signalling systems for railway infrastructure. Your work will enable the extensive expansion of an environmentally friendly and highly modern railway for future generations. The challenges of intensively using modern computer- and network-based systems in railway signalling technology await you! Contribute your expertise and experience to the development of next-generation railway signalling technology!

Your Job

  • You will be responsible for the new and further development of IT-based safety-critical systems in railway infrastructure technology, particularly the European Train Control System (ETCS).
  • You will take the lead in specifying requirements documents (use cases/functions) as the basis for system development or further development of computer-based railway signalling technology, considering operational, operational management, and strategic system deployment requirements.
  • As the technical interface between all function-related subsystems, you will coordinate their integration, ensure interface specifications, and manage their integration into the overall system landscape.
  • You will review supplier specifications, accompany them through the technical system development process, define system acceptance criteria, and conduct system acceptance.
  • You will represent the specialist department in international standardisation bodies such as TSI CCS in connection with ETCS, as well as actively participate in international working groups for the European standardisation of railway technology.
  • After system commissioning, you will assume systemic responsibility and support operations in the event of critical failures (e.g., safety, availability) through analyses, defining measures, and communication with system manufacturers.
  • Your tasks will also include creating system-related documentation (e.g., maintenance, presentations, training, deployment planning), supporting procurement in preparing technical tender documents, and conducting system-related training in regular courses.

Your Profile

  • You have completed a university degree or technical training (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, or equivalent) and ideally already have experience with safety-critical systems – particularly in the context of train control and ETCS.
  • You are familiar with the specifics of developing and deploying IT-based safety-critical systems, as well as topics related to IT networks and IT security.
  • Working independently and proactively in complex project and process landscapes is natural for you; you also bring a high willingness to learn.
  • Your strengths include analytical thinking with a structured approach, teamwork, reliability, and resilience – complemented by social competence and empathy.
  • Fluent English skills and routine handling of English-language documents round off your profile.
