Trainee Deployment Locomotive Driver (Lateral Entry), Innsbruck

ÖBB-Produktion GmbH
  • Tyrol
  • Full Time

Start your training as a Shunting and Preparation Locomotive Driver in 2027. Are you highly interested in operating locomotives, preparing them for our universal locomotive drivers, and checking all safety regulations? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Your tasks – exciting and varied:

  • Part of your daily routine includes preparing locomotives in compliance with regulations, inspecting them, and carrying out shunting and transfer trips. Any noticeable damage is reported independently.
  • You take over trains and then park them correctly at the depot – always keeping an overview and working closely with other colleagues.
  • In a comprehensive, several-month training programme, you will be thoroughly prepared for your future role – with plenty of practical experience and personal guidance.
  • During your training, you will gain valuable driving experience – both on the modern ÖBB simulator and in real railway operations.
  • Upon completion of your training, you will receive the Class A4 locomotive driver’s licence, including shunting management.

What you bring – our expectations:

  • You have completed vocational training or an equivalent qualification, and you will be at least 19 years old by the start of the course.
  • You have already completed your military or alternative civilian service, or you are exempt from it.
  • Excellent German language skills, both written and spoken, enable you to communicate safely, friendly, and professionally with passengers and colleagues.
  • You are physically fit and have good vision and hearing.
  • You can easily reconcile shift work (including night, weekend, and holiday shifts) with your personal life and environment.

What we offer – a compelling package:

  • A training programme that combines technology, responsibility, and teamwork – while offering room for personal development.
  • A high-quality yet significantly shorter training (approx. 28 weeks) than that for a universal locomotive driver.
  • The start of a long-term career as a locomotive driver – with opportunities for advancement to higher classes or additional locomotive types.
  • Experienced professionals and career changers are also very welcome: technical understanding and a passion for responsibility matter more than previous job titles.
  • For the role of "Shunting and Preparation Locomotive Driver Trainee," a minimum salary of €38,351.88 gross per year is provided. After completing the training and working in the role of "Shunting and Preparation Locomotive Driver," the salary is at least €42,807.10 gross per year, with an above-collective-agreement remuneration of at least €44,616.32 gross per year.
  • Additionally, performance-related supplementary payments (averaging €400 gross per month, excluding overtime) are made.

Your application:

Please apply online with the following complete documents:

  • CV
  • Proof of citizenship or a copy of your passport
  • Apprenticeship certificate or school-leaving certificate (Matura)
  • If you are an internal applicant, please ideally also include your SAP applicant extract.

As part of the selection process, you will undergo a psychological and medical suitability assessment and will be invited to an interview.

Women are an indispensable part of our success and corporate culture. We therefore particularly welcome applications from women, who will be given preference in the event of equal qualifications – taking into account the relevant framework conditions of all applications.
