Originally introduced by Bitcoin in 2008, the blockchain technology was envisioned as a tool for rethinking the role of governments, currencies, and financial institutions. Today, however, financial institutions actively trade crypto assets on organized markets, and the US government plans to accumulate crypto assets and back US dollar stablecoins. What implications does this have for blockchain’s initial goals and its future potential?
