Communications Manager

Communications Officer

Part-time (19,25 hours/week) / Based in Vienna, Austria / Tele-work flexibility.

The Zero Project was initiated by the Essl Foundation in 2008, with its mission centered around the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) of the United Nations and its commitment to a world with zero barriers.

The approach of the Zero Project is research-driven and aims to identify, curate, and share Innovative Practices and Policies as intended and encouraged by Article 32 of the UN CRPD.

In order, to achieve this objective, the Zero Project engages with a worldwide cross-sectoral network of innovators, decision-makers, and opinion leaders. More than 9,000 experts, with and without disabilities, in over 180 countries, have been actively contributing to the Zero Project in the past decades.

In essence, the Zero Project is based on a unique research method that has been co-created together with the Zero Project network. This method is based on a collaborative cross-sectoral platform-approach and focuses on the sharing and communication of Innovative Practices and Policies that excel and stand out for their impact, their innovation, and their ability to scale and replicate.

• Contribute to the implementation of the Zero Project’s communication strategy by devising effective outreach strategies that focus on the work of the foundation. This will require the ability to:

  • understand Zero Project policies, to better advise staff on communication needs;
  • in order to help design the key messages of our foundation;
  • and highlight the Innovative Practices and Policies we curate from all around the world.

• Co-Design and implement impactful strategies for digital channels (web, video, and social media) together with Sector Heads within the team.

• Innovate on platforms or technologies as they become available; investigate opportunities for online content marketing; and utilize analytics to continuously tweak the communications flow of the foundation.

• Communicate and publicize events, meetings, and webinars for both the Zero Project and its partners via relevant social media channels.

• Review and edit press releases, policy related documents, and social media posts.

• Place the Zero Project within recognized podcasts and media formats that are best suited to convey the international work – and network – of the Zero Project.

• The Zero Project is committed to the full inclusion of all candidates. We specifically encourage and welcome applications from persons with disabilities and will make all applicable accommodations throughout the application process.

• A background in communications, international relations, languages, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience.

• Strategic and operational experience in communications. A focus on disability inclusion issues is preferred, however, not mandatory.

• Outstanding writing and editing skills, as well as excellent organizational and planning abilities, with a strong drive for impactful results that further our mission–a world with zero barriers.

• Being part of something larger than yourself; by joining the Zero Project you join a global family all committed to a world with Zero Barriers.

• International team (working language: English) marked by an open spirit, open doors, and open minds.

• An office centrally located within Vienna within the old stock exchange.

• The ability to work among inspiring neighbors; we sit in the House of Philanthropy in Vienna; a unique co-working space occupied by a plethora of social impact foundations and NGO’s. Be inspired everyday as you enjoy unlimited amounts of coffee!

• The optional ability to temporarily work remotely from anywhere in the world.

The Zero Project values diversity and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of age, gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnic background.

Your application should be written in English and consist of:

1. A full curriculum vitae.

2. A covering letter (one page) that describes how your profile, skills and experience meet the criteria outlined in the vacancy and how you would like to add to the strategy and vision of the Zero Project.

3. And any portfolio items of work you have created and you would like to share with us, in order to highlight your communication skills.

Please send your full application to us via email – – using the subject line: “Application: Communications Manager | Your First and Last Name.”

The deadline for receipt of applications is Thursday, September 30 at 23:59 CEST.
